About

Gary Meacher, M.F.A.

I am an Assistant Professor of Design. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Cleveland State University and my Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University.

As a visual communicator, I employ the use of design as a tool for solving problems. I manage a balance of analytical and creative skill sets. I enjoy critiquing and lecturing design, promoting its value, and championing the culture. I stress the importance of creative problem solving and the design field’s ability to be a differentiator in a variety of settings—design can do almost anything.

I’m an observer and fanatic of useful and aesthetically pleasing objects, forms of communication, and experiences. I can’t help but pay attention as I move throughout the world, being hyper-aware of visual and textual things.

I obsess over clarity. I’m intrigued by misunderstandings and look for solutions. I make connections and ask questions about how things work, what they are, what they look like, how they are made, and what they mean.

Observations lead to wondering about other possibilities and making/testing those ideas. Sometimes this making solves a problem, and sometimes it presents a new direction. Curiosity and the spirit of a lifelong learner are at the core of who I am and what I do.
